A journey through the dry needling process
The dry needling process starts even before the needle enters the body. Your practitioner will sanitise the area of treatment. As the practitioner taps the needle into the skin, you would feel an ant’s bite sensation as the needle pokes through the skin.
When the needle is moved in and out of the trigger point, you may either feel your muscles cramping, slight numbness or twitching of the muscles. Once the needle is taken out, you would feels soreness from the treated muscles which could last for few hours to two days.
Do not fret! As you will also feel the relieve that comes after the process. Some people may feel the relieve immediately, while others may feel it after the soreness subsides. Nevertheless, your muscles will thank you for releasing them from the tension that they have endured!
How does dry needling help?
Dry needling helps in reducing pain, stiffness and restricted movement. This is because the insertion of the needles stimulates the body’s response towards pain which helps in disrupting the pain cycle. Furthermore, it promotes blood flow and circulation to the area, aiding the healing and repair of tissues. When the tension in the muscles are released, it can improve the muscle function and enhance range of motion. Hence dry needling is able to improve a person’s overall wellbeing.
